Going into the first official matches of the season the lady blue devils came out ready to play, making quick work of Wheeler Varsity in 2 sets with the final scores of 25-12 and 25-15. The lady blue devils were lead by junior outside hitter Kendall Gazaway with 4 aces, 10 kills, 7 digs, and a .429 hitting percentage. (picture it like a batter in baseball, a really good average is .300). Junior middle hitter Grace Thompson, nicknamed the Grace Horse due to her strong work ethic, recorded 2 aces, 4 skills, and a .444 hitting average!
The Campbell match was not won nearly as easy, after winning the 1st set 25-20, the lady blue devils lost set 2 21-25. Set 3 to determine the match did not disappoint the fans, as both teams played their hearts out, but in the end Marietta pulled out a 17-15 win to complete a 2-0 sweep for the night. Once again they were lead by big games by Kendall Gazaway and Grace (the Grace Horse) Thompson. Kendall recorded 13 kills with a .276 hitting percentage. Grace had 10 kills with a .471 hitting percentage, including 2 HUGE KILLS that eventually lead to a dig and kill by Kendall to secure the victory!
The lady blue devils compete in the Sequoyah Classic this weekend and will play at River Ridge High School on Friday and Saturday.
