MARIETTA, GA - The Marietta Blue Devils’ 9th Grade boys basketball team came up short against the Hillgrove Hawks by a score of 74-61 after trying to stage a late comeback in the 4th quarter. The Blue Devils were down by 25 heading into the 4th quarter, but went on a 26-14 run which was unfortunately not enough to complete the comeback. Howell Owen led the team in scoring with 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, shooting 54% from the field and 50% from three point range. With the loss, Marietta drops their 4th straight falling to 0-4 while Hillgrove stays undefeated at 14-0. The Blue Devils will try to break the losing streak next Tuesday on January 30th at McEachern at 6:00 p.m..
At their game for Breast Cancer Awareness, the Lady Blue Devils pulled off a win against Hillgrove High! Before the game started #11 Kayla Day got a recognition for 1000 points scored! The team started off strong leading at the end of the 1st quarter 15-11. However they finished off at the half 3 points behind with a score of 23-26. At the end of the 3rd quarter they were in the lead by 3 points, ending it 39-33. After a shocking 3-pointer from Hillgrove at the LAST SECOND of the 4th quarter, the game went into overtime but ultimately ended with a win for our Blue Devils with the score being 62-58
